TOPSAIL

TOPSAIL

Incorporated in 1963, the Town of Topsail Beach is located at the southern end and boasts a friendly, family oriented style of beach living. High rise development is not allowed, beautification is encouraged, and conservation of the island environment is a top priority. There are over 1200 homes, but only about 500 year-round residents. The seasonal influx of tourists increases the population to about 7,000, which helps sustain the town's motels, restaurants, gift shops, fishing pier and other businesses.

Missiles & More Museum

During World War II, a select group of young, daring, female pilots became not only pioneers but heroes. They were the WASP (Womens AirForce Service Pilots), the first women trained to fly American military aircraft. They served domestically, ferrying and testing, towing targets and training men to fly. The Missiles and More Museum opens on April 4, 2011, with a new exhibit which traces the history of this elite group of women and pays tribute to their service and valor. Other exhibits at the Museum include: Pirates of the Carolinas, Operation Bumblebee, Camp Davis, The Towns of Topsail Island, Topsail's Natural Beauty and Fragility, Traces of Native Americans on the Island and an International Shell Exhibit. The Museum is housed in the Historical Assembly Building located at 720 Channel Blvd in Topsail Beach (at the intersection of Channel Blvd. and Flake St.).

Shopping & Restaurants

As you enter Topsail, there are several gift shops and restaurants. The gift shops are unique and have a lot of local items to select from. Spending the afternoon here is highly recommended!

Topsail Inlet

At the southern end of the island is the Topsail Inlet where boats can access the ocean from the inter-coastal. The southern most end of the island is not developed. If you are up for an adventure, bring some water and take a long walk around the end of the island. It's undeveloped beauty is simply spectacular!
